William Shaw

Chief Strategy Officer

As Chief Strategy Officer, William Shaw leads ASA’s strategic direction and long-term planning, focusing on defining, communicating, and overseeing initiatives that drive growth, competitiveness, and sustainability. He is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of ASA’s strategic initiatives and aligning them with the organization’s mission and goals.

Before joining ASA, Shaw served as Vice Provost for Innovation at Tufts University, where he led business development efforts, established strategic partnerships, fostered entrepreneurship, enhanced infrastructure, and engaged with the global innovation ecosystem. He oversaw key programs such as the Office of the Board of Advisors, Tufts Launchpad | BioLabs, and launched Deco Labs, a Tufts founded start-up studio.

Previously, Shaw was the Executive Director of the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital, a Harvard-affiliated institution where he fostered innovation by connecting scientists, business leaders, and patients, and led business development efforts with academic, industry, philanthropic, and government partners. Shaw is also the founder of several startups and received a prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship.

Shaw holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from WPI, a J.D. from the University of New Hampshire School of Law, and studied Intellectual Property Law at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Shaw holds faculty appointments at Tufts University’s School of Engineering and University of New Hampshire School of Law.
